How to Earn Reading Minutes
The MOST important activity your child can do over the summer to maintain and improve his/her skills is to READ, READ, READ! Read with a friend, read alone, read aloud, read upside-down, just READ! Introduce your child to new genres and discuss their similarities and differences. Have book talks at the dinner table, carry a book with you everywhere you go, encourage your child to love reading!
Each grade level has a set amount of minutes that should be read each day or week. This is intended as a guideline. Some days you might read more than others, and some days not at all. This reading can be done in many different ways.
Besides reading, there are various activities for your child to do each week. Just click on the grade level he/she will be entering in August and weekly activities will be available in language arts and math.
